Prettying up the deck with bold color!

The weather everywhere has been unseasonably mild and I love it!  In GA its been in the 80's and I am loving it - blue skies and warm sun = a much happier attitude.

The deck has been calling my name these past few warm weeks so I decided to give it a little TLC; plus I am going stir crazy in this house.  So I figured, who not spruce it up a little and take a few of those boring conference calls from outside instead of inside my home office.

So here we are before - boring right?

After - added some color through pillows and candle holders and flowers...small changes for a big effect huh?

Picked up the turquoise vertical planters from Target and the square potted plants from Home Depot.

Living room updates {The room wth 15 windows!}

During the holidays last year I wrote a post about the upstairs living room (http://msshowoff-ct.blogspot.com/2012/01/upstairs-living-room-is-next-on-list-of.html) and my desire to get going on decorating in there.

This room was overwhelming to me....Probably because of its size.  It looks and feels huge because of the 20 foot ceilings and 15 windows along the back wall.   The room is visible from the front door entrance, deck entrance, garage door entrance and when you look over the catwalk from the 2nd floor.  In other words its always in view of someone.

First thing I decided was not paint the 20 foot walls (uh no thanks!) instead I added some color to the room by adding stencil to the back of the built in's...

Then we decided on a sectional....a large sectional.  (The Metropolis - Cindy Crawford Collection in Slate Gray)  I love this sectional!  If you are looking for a sectional with a tailored look, nice lines, bold color choices, tufting accents and comfy - this is the sectional to get!  Its pretty big though so make sure you have the space to avoid it looking crowded in your room.

I realize I didn't take any front facing shots of the sectional before I separated it - sorry!

Here is one side of the sectional (after we separated it) - decorated with throw pillows from Home Goods

Here is the other half -- excuse the sloppy-ness of the cushions and kitchen in the background

The thing that I love about this sectional is that it looks great together in true sectional form or separated in sofa / love-seat / chaise setup.

Then I added this heavy metal mirror to wall opposite the windows...the reflection from the wall of windows is so nice during the day...

I plan to put a wood bench below the mirror, which I will dress up with some fun bold color pillows.

and I added a nice palm plant and coordinating woven basket (both from IKEA)

Below are just a few more shots of the room.  I think I mentioned this before but this room gets a lot of sunlight!

Still to do are purchase an area rug, larger TV, bench for underneath the mirror, round ottoman and then I think we will be done....

Ballard Design's Sacha Mirror {found @ Home Goods!!}

You ever find something for your house that you werent looking for but fell in love with and had to have it?  That is what happened to me on a recent shopping trip to Home Goods.  I was there looking pictures to hang in the laundry room and came across this work of art...

This pic, doesn't do it any justice.  It is beautiful in real life!  Its pretty heavy - made of metal that is a bronzy, coppery color with 100 mini circular mirrors going across.  I was immediatley drawn to it and went right over to inspect it..it was perfect, except that it was missing 1 small circular mirror in the corner.  After thinking about it for a few minutes I figured I probably shouldnt get it, the space where the missing mirror is would definitley show against the gray wall.  So I proceeded to look for my laundry room artwork.

Then it dawned on me....I could put a mirror from one of my MAC makeup compacts in there!  DUH, the mirrors are exactly the same size.  So I went back and grabbed the gigantic mirror and happily proceeded to check out where I asked the cashier for something off due to the missing mirror....and after talking to her manager, they gave me another 15% off.  YES!  I love a deal.

I loved my deal even more when I found out that the mirror I just paid $120 minus 15% is THE Sacha mirror that Ballard Design carries for $369!

On Ballards's site its pictured with 4 Sacha mirrors to make one big mirror, but its sold as one piece that measures 39 1/2" squared @ Ballard for $369 for 1 mirror!  Thats a bit much for my budget so to just come upon this mirror in Home Goods makes me love it even more :) I have no idea how it ended up at Home Goods except maybe for the one little missing mirror that I replaced.  Its not off season or a clearance item at Ballard or anything else - in fact, Ballard is still selling the mirror at full price and it was also featured in their latest fall catalog.  Whatever the reason, it's fine with me :)

I love how it pics up the reflection from the wall of windows that is opposite this wall in the living room and I love how unique it is.

Here is another angle:

I'm thinking about adding either a bench seat underneath or a very narrow sofa table, not sure.  I kind of like it the way it is for now but you never know what I may come across on my next shopping trip.
